What is a martini, anyway? Is it just something clear or semi-clear that you pour into glass shaped like an upside-down triangle? Is it based on vodka? gin? pisco? all of the above? none of the above?
We believe that anything you craft from several fabulous ingredients — including 1/2 ounce of Spiker’s Shrubs — and pour into a festive glass is call for a celebration. And since the Belmont Stakes are happening next Saturday — June 11 — we’re celebrating the famous Cowboy Hoof Martini.
The drink was invented by Dick Bradsell, one of the great UK bartenders whose sensibility for creating easy and delicious drinks has had a major impact on cocktails, not just in the UK but in the US as well. The spirit of choice is gin, but vodka will also work.
